Star Sonata Parody Characters: Grimshag Healer

I haven't posted anything for a while so i decided to write about my new parody character Grimshag Healer.

In this picture you can see Killer80. He is quite an uber. He is level 975 and he is the member of the best team of SS, the pantalones. Every MMORPG has classes and so does SS too. Just like any MMORPG has classes, every MMORPG has a class called healer. In Star Sonata its called shield monkey. Killer80 is a shield monkey. On the right you can see my character, Grimshag Healer and his shield transfer weapon in use. It is only level 20 character but its equipped to look as much like a stereotypical Shield Monkey as possible.

Every über ShM uses a ship called Apprentice's Ward. So does Killer80. App Wand is actually so good that you have to be at least level 500 to be able to have skills to use it. But there is a mini version of the ship called Mini Mad Scientist. Yes. Its the ship Grim Healer is using. It is actually so good ship that it took me 84 skill points to take all the skills it needed (of a total of 100 skill points!). I was glad I could take all the skills I wanted with those 16 leftover skills points.

Grimshag Healer cost me 130 mil to make. And I'll tell you that's quite a lot in SS. Even it took me a lot of money I am quite satisfied with the result. It doesn't just look cool. It also works in action. We were killing some ai (computer-controlled ships) with Tony and he would have died a dozen times without Grimshag Healer. The best thing about this char is that its quite a new idea. I haven't seen any characters like that before. Usually free to play characters have been done a dozen times like drone deployment 12 or station management 12 characters.

You would have seen Tony's speed daemon and my multifire which were under progress until we found out they aren't possible after they made new secondary skills (classes). Sucks!

New Production from Mortar Studios

It's a new production. The first one to be announced on the homepage (because I have not been bothered before). I made use of my green screen that I set up into my room with my dad. This is the first ever finnished project on a green screen with me, not counting for this one horrible review I made some time ago that I will not release.

Description:

Project title: Me in CSS
Release date: 18.11.07

DESC: This is me inside css owning some guys that have gotten lost into the wrong game.

Today I'm writing something special, for inspired by Bernard Cornwells historical fictions (Which have been a constant cause of a lack of sleep.), and a particularly exciting siege in Medieval II, I have decided to write some fiction of my own. Here follows the first part of my attempt at some mildly historical fiction. Comments and criticism are greatly appreciated.

King Rufus of England looked over his camp outside the fortress of Gaza and smiled. What had begun as an entirely unsuccessful crusade to Antioch and turned into a splendid campaign of plunder, pillage, and punishment for the Arab infidels. King Rufus had been a poor leader at home, and his court of Nobles had effectively banished him on the god forsaken crusade. Rufus was no idiot, but there was little he could do and so he set out to carry out God’s work with an army of England’s finest

Trip to Berlin

Hello guys! i'm in Berlin. It's been a nice trip so far and I'm gonna write something about it cuz I got time.

Yesterday I ate the mysterious apfelstrüder Sak has told us about. It wasn't bad. In fact it was very good but not as good as he has told us. After eating it we went to IMAX. We watched a film called the Hauted Castle. It was perfect for us: lots of cool 3D effects and not any plot. We also went to the world's fastest elevator and watched the most breathtaking views on top of one of the highest buildings in Berlin. Well, we did a lot of other things too but I don't remember them quite well right now.

Today we visited some random museums but my favourite place was Battlefield Berlin. It is a miniature shop. It was the best shop I've ever seen. There were full product of GW's and Privateer Press' products and other miniature manufacturers as well including Racham and Black Scorpion miniatures and many more. In fact there were miniatures for every range of miniature games I've ever heard of. Even Starship Trooper minis were there! It was a cool place to hang out so I took my time. I even bought one random Racham Goblin mini which was on discount. Only 3€! I also bought a WARMACHINE rulebook. It cost only 24,90 but it Is as big as Warhammer rulebook. WHOAA!

Language Learning II: Svenska

Beginning in seventh grade, I began to study Swedish at school. I had decided to concentrate, and not let it suffer the same fate as my first attempt at French. The first year went well with a delightedful teacher. She wasn't interested quite as much in Swedish as she was in Italian, and in addition to teaching the seasonal festive songs customary for language education in Swedish, she made sure we knew them just as well in Italian. She also warned us of "fake pizzerias" in Italy, where they sell cheap supermarket pizza to unsuspecting tourists. Invaluable information indeed.

The following year however introduced another old teacher for the students to prey on. She was our new Swedish teacher. In some ways she seemed experienced, yet she had to be at least half deaf not to go insane due to the relative chaos which often ruled the class. Either than or nerves of steel. Unfortunately she had about as much authority as one of my Danish generals in Medieval II (forgive the video game reference), who the game rated: "Young peasant girls laugh when this man tries to tell them what to do." In other words, very little authority.

I would very much like to blame her for the ensuing dip in my Swedish skills, but although it was often frustrating to try and study in such an atmosphere, I simly threw in the towel while some others with more wisdom persevered. In the end I did realise the error of my ways, and made efforts to catch up, the most succesful of them being near the end of the school year, which seemed to have had some impact due to decent grade from Swedish.

Her lessons weren't all doom and gloom though, as her personality did have its quirks. The most notable of these was her slurry English pronounciation, which while pretty good for a grandma, was amusing nonetheless.
Pleaseplease (Origins of nickname revealed later, read on!): "So, the Swedish test will be on the tenff" (coinciding with my birthday -_-)
Me: "So when was the test?"
Pleaseplease: "On the tenff."
Me: "Err, when?"
Pleaseplease: "The tenff" *smiles happily*

For some reason I found that rather amusing, and tried again next lesson, but only managed to ask once due to the difficulty of keeping a straight face. She was very intent on speaking English to us, it being an international school and all. We often begged her to speak in Finnish, as during the few occasions when she accidentaly did, it seemed her brain snapped into overdrive and she became sharp and completely comprehensible. On several occasions she asked our principal weather or not she could speak Finnish, the answer of course being no. I am still confident that had she merely switched her language to Finnish despite this, she would have ruled the class.

The second of her quirks was her statistically unbeatable record in politeness. A typical lesson would start something like this:

Pleaseplease: "Please, please, please, please everyone, please be quiet!" (You ought to get it now...)
Pleaseplease: "Ok, lets see your homework please."
James Blunt: "Ok... lets see..." *begins to slowly turn pages*
Pleaseplease watches intently.
Randm guy on other side of class: "Teacher!"
Pleaseplease: "Yes please!" *hurries off*

I recall I wasn't the only one who recorded the amount of pleases said in the back of our notebooks. Recently my first course of Swedish in lukio began. We have a sensible teacher (albeit with dodgy eyes... yes... always something wrong with them...) and the first course appears to be entirely devoted to consolidating already learned skills, which is excellent for me, and slightly annoying for those who have no need for it. I've also been studying some Swedish during mornings when my first course is at 9:50. I would hate to miss the opportunity to learn the language. So, despite occasionally dubious performance it does seem my Swedish future is bright.
____________________

In the future I think I will do some more posts where characterful teachers play a role. We may all moan and groan about our them, but it is great to have teachers with personality to make our days more interesting. Did I say that to avoid having an angry mob of teachers demolish my house after featuring them in my blog? Yes, partly.

Also, if you are wondering where the previous Language Learning II post went.. keep wondering.

Johannes Starts Photography

Hi everyone! I'm going to start taking pictures and leaving video making for a while (that is a few days until the next idea pops up!). But what I mean is that i'm going to start photography. I'm hopefully going to be bothered to set up the studio in the basement this weekend and be more "ideaful" with it this time. If I need to, I can get another worklight so the lighting will be in perfect balance. I also recently got into Photoshop CS 3 and therefore, I have been more into image making. Another main idea for this is because right now, I suck at picture editing.

Other than that, there is a new look at the Mortar Studios website. A new banner, new theme and almost got the poll working! :) (It's buggy!) Go and have a look at:

www.mortarstudios.blogspot.com

If you have any ideas related to photographs, leave a comment! I promise I will read every single one!

P.S: If you don't think that it's appropriate that I post 3 times in a row, just tell me and I won't do it again :)

Ipod Classic!

It's time for me to show off my brand new ipod classic (see image).
It has 80gb of space, ability to playback videos (which every ipod seems to be able to do now except shuffle) and 3 games. It has a load of stuff and I don't have enough music and video to fill it up . We ordered it from the internet so I got my name and country on the back.

Dear Readers!

Exciting news!

Now that your all hyped up, let me tell you the disappointing (for you anyway) news. Since I've started blogging in earnest again, I've decided to move my blog to squarespace.com, a far superior service, but one which includes a monthly fee after a 30 day trial.

Although I can already hear you groaning about yet another URL to remember, fear not, for I am planning on purchasing a proper domain name, meaning in the future your life will be THAT MUCH easier.

For now I will be posting all entries into both blogs, but I hope that you update your bookmarks and links to the new site, and stop using my old blog. One of the reasons is that I can then more accurately monitor the traffic to my blog, something I haven't been doing previously. Not that there would have been any traffic.

The new URL is... *drumroll*

thealmostdaily.squarespace.com
!! Bet you couldn't see that one coming!

WARMACHINE

Just a moment ago I was trying desperately to start studying English for my English test the day after tomorrow. Then I had a great idea. What if I decided to write something to TRK instead of reading boring rules from the grammar book. That's more like a style for me I thought! I can learn English in front of the computer. Fantastic!

I am going to tell some of my thoughts of Privateer Press' miniature game WARMACHINE. (Yep. Its WARMACHINE, not Warmachine)

I have decided to start collecting and playing WARMACHINE. I got this idea when I was at ropecon this year. I saw guys playing WARMACHINE intro game and it look tempting. I didn't fell in love for that game right from the start. At first it more like looked interesting contrast for GW's games. Funny-looking robots smashing each others. Sounds like a great idea for me.

Some weeks after ropecon I heard that our dearest friend Olli the second had started WARMACHINE. That made me think the game even more. I wanted to find more information about this mysterious game. I opened my firefox, went to google.fi and searched for WARMACHINE. I found a site of the company which makes them. There was a good gallery with beautifully painted WARMACHINE miniatures.

I also found out that Finnish miniature forum Sotavasara (I almost wrote SOTAVASARA :D) had a lot of discussion about WARMACHINE. There was a presentation about the game written by Matti, the admin of Sotavasara forum. When I read it I was completely sold (can I say in English? :P). The game sounded a great fun with lots and lots of tactical elements. Every unit has tons of special abilities and it offers a lot of challenges for players. I would have thought that WARMACHINE is more like a showcase game, not a real tactical wargame like Warhammer. I thought like that because WARMACHINE game is more like a small skirmish than a huge epic like Warhammer.

The best thing about WARMACHINE is the miniatures. I have heard they are better quality than GW's models and I really like their theme. GW has a grim darkness theme but WARMACHINE is something completely different: it has humour. Warjacks are almost as cute as halflings or goblins but they are ten times as big. WHOAA!

Armies in WARMACHINE are a lot of smaller-sized than Warhammer armies. This gives me a perfect oppoturnity to make über showcase army. I'v failed it thrice but I won't make it this time. I have decided to start with mercenaries army. I will make a complete Rhulic army. Rhul is a kingdom in Iron Kingdoms (fantasy world of the game). Rhul is a land of dwarfs and it sounds like a good choice. It's been years when I have painted dwarves. Rhulic warjacks are the funniest-looking ones of the game in my opinion and that's my biggest reason for choosing them.

At last but not the least, HORDES. Its a game a lot like WARMACHINE but it has more fantasy elements. Both WARMACHINE and HORDES are based on a same Iron Kingdoms fantasy world. The best things about HORDES is that HORDES armies can play against WARMACHINE armies.

The biggest problems of WARMACHINE are availability and price. They are metal models so its reasonable that they cost more than GW's plastics.

I'm not trying to brainwash you guys. I just want to make you think of alternatives. Games Workshop is not the only miniature company and only way to find out if its the best or not is to try the others.

All of you guys know how fast I get ideas for new projects but after some days they are gone. I really hope that this isn't like that. Wait and see. That's all I can say about it right now.

Here are some links

Privateer Press
Roolipelit.net, a netstore which has all the models for WARMACHINE
Peliarkku. Same thing with this one but this one's cheaper.
Matti's presentation

Every WARMACHINE and HORDES race has its own starting box which costs 46 e from Peliarkku and 50 e from Roolipelit.net. Basic rules can be found from the net and rules for each unit come with the model. If some of you are interested in one ore both of these games, I suggest to download Armies of Immoren. It's an army builder program for these games.

Well, that's much more than I thought I would write so I guess that's it. Enough schoolworks for today.

Thanks for reading.

EDIT: I forgot to mention one thing. A couple of days ago I made some very sweet WARMACHINE terrain. They are really good for WM. They are so steampunk!

Tour de Europe - Day 7 - 8

Braving the Italian traffic for the better half of the day was indeed tiring. Things got worse when our hungry party couldn't find a restaurant, resorting to spewing obscenities in hopes that one would turn up. When we finally found a place, we were reminded of the local custom of "siesta", that is, going for an afternoon nap in the middle of the day. This of course meant that no restaurants were serving food.

Tour de Europe - Day 6 - 7

One of the most fascinating parts of the day was when we descended past the snow line. Quite abruptly, the snow covering the ground gave way to green grass and foliage. Due to the snow we had set off quite late today, but we were determined to reach lake Garda before the day was over. The mountain scenery was as mind boggling as ever, and we headed to a glacier which was near our route.

4 Different Blogs?!

Oh no! All of you guys have an own blog (except Tony). Reading TRK is more and more difficult. Oh yeah. I have to visit IGC every now and then too. In the old times it was a lot easier. All of us wrote things to TRK but now we have to make more complicated. It would be nice if you would at least post entire post. Not like just some lines and then continue reading... If you guys keep on doing what you do now someday I get bored and forget TRK blog. It would be better for you too if you write at TRK because then I might even send comments.

Make Up Lyrics for Rock N' Roll, Guys! Competition!

Dear readers,

The title sais it all. You have to make up lyrics that are suitable for all ages (Not kiddy music though) and fit the song (See download or listen link at bottom of post). The song has a rock style to it. Very ACDC. I personally liked the idea of making it relate to food, but you can decide that!

Campaign Turn 1

The Kingdom of Bahdul advances uncontested towards the coast. The Thallssocracy of Venusia, The Free State of Bavaria, and The Federation have all sought to conquer the central highlands, and area of great strategic importance.

The battle for the highlands will be a Regicide game, see original campaign post for other game settings.

The preliminary date for the game will be on the 25th, Saturday. However I have yet to make contact with most players and this date is likely to change, further details will be posted later.

Tour de Europe - Day 4 - 6

The following day we set off for the Alps. Never having been to the Alps before I was very excited. As a whole the day enjoyed pleasant scenery, but arriving at the foot of the Alps was quite an experience. As the mountains rose in the horizon, we were surrounded by idyllic countryside. It was cloudy, but from many gaps the sun shone on a hilltop church or cottage. As I gazed in awe at the sights, a sudden bloody stain splashed on my visor, the only remains of some unfortunate insect.

Let the games begin!

The first campaign turn has started, I would like all factions to send me an email with the coordinates of the territory from which they are initiating their offensive and the territory into which they are attacking as soon as possible. Games will be scheduled once all factions have made their move.

Mighty Crane Films + Introduce your faction!

Well, was surfing around on youtube when I found Mighty Crane films. Brilliant works of art using Half Life 2, and presumably Garyy's mod. Plenty of excellent videos for those who can appreciate the talent that it requires to make something like this. Here are two sample videos which I quite liked. The first one is a mix of iPod commercials and stomp, while the second one is more melancholic. Check out their blog, it had links to more videos.

Secondly, I'd like to remind everyone to get their campaign introductions done on IGC so we can get the campaign started. I've made an introductory post myself already so you can get inspired.

Age of Empires II Campaign

The first IGC campaign draws near. While individual preparations are not quite finished, I thought it would be time to explain how the campaign works.

There will be 4 factions. Each faction has 1 primary player and as many secondary players as one likes. The idea behind this is that since most games will be 1v1 if both sides have for example 2 players available for play, they can join in with co-op. The primary player can only fight for his or her faction. Secondary players can fight using co-op for any faction, unless agreed otherwise. A primary player may also consent a secondary player to play his or her faction's game if he is not personally available to play. This should help scheduling the games.

Above is the campaign map showing the various territories, their map types, and the starting locations of the various factions. The map type determines the map type played when a player initiates an offensive. More on that later. As individual preparations are incomplete, primary players will later introduce their factions.

The campaign will last 6 campaign turns. The campaign turns follow the following procedure.

1. Each faction initiates an offensive somewhere along their border. They specify (using coordinates) the territory from which they attack, and the territory into which they attack. They email me this information at the start of each campaign turn. I will email my move to myself before everyone else as a matter of principle to prevent cheating.

2. Now, battles are resolved. The territory which is being attacked determines the map type. If the attacker wins, they gain control of that territory, if the defender wins, they maintain control of the territory, and also gain control of the territory from which the offensive was initiated.

If two or more factions attack the same province, a 3 - 4 player game will be held. Again the territory which is attacked determines the map type. The victor of this game gains/maintains control of the disputed territory as well as all other territories from which offensives were initiated. For example: Blue and red both attack the same grey territory. A 3 player game is held in the grey territory. If the grey faction wins, it maintains control of the territory but also gains control of the blue and red territories from which it was attacked. If blue wins, it gains control of the grey territory, but also the red territory which attacked the grey territory.

The game settings are always as follows.

Game: Random Map (Conquest) / Regicide / King of the Hill - To be determined randomly. Map size: Small
Resources: High
Population: 1000
Game Speed: Normal
Reveal Map: Explored
Starting Age: Feudal Age

As battles are won, victorious factions may boast this acchievement on the blog, displaying their heraldry and by writing an account of the battle with full creative freedoms.

3. With the battles resolved, an updated campaign map will be posted, and a new campaign turn will begin.

If you have any questions or I left some areas unclear, feel free to contact me or to leave a comment. The campaign will begin as soon as all players have finished their preparations.

Tour de Europe - Day 1 - 3

At last, it is a time for the full account of our epic motorcycle journey through Europe. On Thursday afternoon with all our stuff packed we headed off to the docks in Helsinki. We would travel straight to Travemunde, with a half cargo, half tourist ship. I was expecting the journey to be exceedingly boring, since it would take about two hours. Most peculiarly however, the three activities the ship had to offer, eating, sleeping and going to the sauna were enough to fill the hours.

It was Friday evening when we arrived at Travemunde with our new friend whom we had met on the ship. Matti was also a Harley enthusiast and would join us for the first leg of our journey, seeing as we would be going the same way. Our destination from the dock was the Finnish Seamen's Church of Hamburg, where we would be spending our first night, the only night we had planned ahead. Although the journey there was, looking back, in no way scenic, I thoroughly enjoyed absorbing the sights and the atmosphere of a new country.

Pyry's Generally Heat

During the past week I was was wisiting my grandparents. They had a pc and I got a huge Generally heat. I made 14 own tracks during 3 days and most of them during the same day. For the first time I realised how to use paint to do tracks. So I when I started I was a noob but have a look at my Tornado track at the end of this post. I think that's my best one.

I'm very happy with all my new tracks. Now I have to make more of them. I will make a whole series of them. Pysethus Summer Run will be the name. When I got like 20 or 25 proper tracks, I'm happy. Then we have to test them someday.

This is another of my brand new tracks and I had to show it too.

Johannes Starts Magic

I recently started to play Magic, which Sakari has introduced me to and I enjoy playing the game. We first played a few games when we split Sak's cards into two, so it would be like 2 packs. But today we visited Helsinki with a bus and metro so we could go to Fantasiapelit and I bought myself a pack of red and white cards.

The person selling things at the shop was quite nice. He told me what every colour included. I decided to get a white and red pack. Sak also has one of those but my cards are still different from his. I also bought plastic sheeths for my cards, 2 die, and a black, plastic box for keeping everything in it.

We played a game as soon as we got home, and surprise surprise! I lost! Now I'm at Pyry's house where I just payed two games. I diddn't win any, but I was second in a 3 player game. I think that I will be playing Magic for a long time, but I need to improve alot.

By the way, here is a card that I would like to have one day:

Monday AOC Results!

The game attracted a total of four players, Tony was also expected to join, but missed the game due to an unfortunate lapse of memory and our failed attempts at communication. Nevertheless, Oliver, Simon, Pysethus and myself had a great game.

The game started with the usual frantic economic buildup. Relatively early in the game Pysethus made a landing in south turkey, below Simons city in the north. Meanwhile, Saitou was busy prepearing a large army and navy which he was able to do relatively early due to a new technology policy where only researchers vital to the attack are research. The target of the attack was Seleukos, rather than Pysethus, who was a neighbour but also a trading partner. Before attacking, Saitou made pact of peace with Simon, due to fears he was allied with Seleukos and that Seleukos would thus be able to use Simon's line of sight to spot the incoming navy.

Saitou split his navy into two attack groups consisting of 20 fast fireships and 10 cannon galleons each and sent them to secure either side of the landing zone, the easter are of Seleukos' city. The navy was far more powerful than needed, and little opposition was met, nevertheless the cannon galleons proved to be as useful as always against land targets. The landing force consisted of Paladins, Elite Throwing Axemen and Halberdiers, aswell as several ongaers and rams. Once again little opposition was met and defenses were quickly overwhelmed. Perhaps a combined effect from Seleukos' inexperience with the Goth's, their lack of substantial defences and the earliness of the attack.

Saitou was now left with the ruins of Seleuko's city, and an ever formidable, yet idle army. He gathered his forces and struck forward at Pysethus, who was also overwhelmed suprisingly quickly, possibly due to the fact that he was preoccupied in Turkey.

Pysethus had established himself well in Turkey, and with his main city gone, was already rebuilding his economy at alarming speed. Upon the completion of Pysethus' conquest of Turkey, he and Saitou formed an alliance and declared allied victory, neither having the energy to face each other.

Thus, the two civilisations lived happily ever after in perfect harmony, and so modern greece and turkey was formed. And thanks to the gallant efforts of these founding fathers, Greece and Turkey continue to live in bliss, with absolutely no squabbles whatsoever with each other... ever.

Pyry's painting thingies: Gnoblar

I decided to paint one gnoblar with my über showcase standard and here it is. It took 4 days to paint it. I'm quite happy with the result. It will be my entry in ropecon's painting competition.

Age of Empires II - Monday 16/7/97 (Game Details)

from the International Gaming Coalition

Yesterday I returned from my grande tour of Europe, eager to relieve gaming withdrawal symptons. So, I propose a game for next Monday. As I understand, most Finnish IGC members are not away on holiday at that time, however, further confirmation is needed.

If the game does not have a minimum of 3 players, it will be postponed/cancelled. The game will begin as usual at 16:oo Finnish time and 14:00 British time. Please make sure your game will not be disrupted by other plans. If this time is not suitable let me know and we can decide on another time.

Proposed game setting are as follows, may be changed due to popular demand.

Game: Random Map
Map Style: Real World
Location: Byzantium (Greece and western Turkey)
Resources: High
Population: 1000
Game Speed: Normal
Reveal Map: Explored
Starting Age: Dark Age
Victory: Conquest

This is the first time we are playing a real world map. If there is enough interest, I think it would be fun to run a campaign with a silly name like "IGC on Tour" where we play through a number of the real world maps, and declare the player with most wins as the winner. For starters I would propose a "Tour de Europe" with three games, Britain, France and Italy.

Let me know if you can play on monday and/or if you are interested in participating in this campaign!

Pyry's sailing trip part one

I am currently sailing with my parents and I am really bored. All I can do here is to listen to my mp3 and read books. I left my minis in the attic. I think it is good for me to take a short painting break.

Yesterday we were at our club's island Pentala and now we are going to a place called Elisaari. That is quite a big place. I have been there many times before. At least there is a small shop in the island where I can buy ice cream.

I wrote this whole thing because my dad has quite new cellphone and it has proper a keyboard and net connection and I had to try it out. I have already played ogame with that XD

Trip to Kantola

Yesterday we went to a cottage called Kantola, where my grandma was born, with our grandparents. The trip to the area was about 15 - 25 minutes and it was surrounded by farmyards.

First we stopped at a farmyard and walked through a path made by a tractor that led to a forrest owned by our mother. I got out of the car and I found myself knee deep in... grass. I made my way to the boot where my grandfather handed me a pair of oversized wellington boots, which were rather uncomfortable to walk in. As we got to one of the edges of the forrest, we jumped over a ditch to get in to the actual forrest. There were lots of other ditches, but we made our way into the opposite end. My grandfather kept cutting down the small branches to make a path for us. We inspected some trees and got back into the car. I was happy to get rid of the boots!

The next and last stop was Kantola itself. No one ever really goes there, and last summer it was completely unused. This meant that the road there, was also never used last summer, and it was flooded with grass. It felt nice driving through all of it. At Kantola, I looked in the atic and it was quite delapitated. Planks all over the floor, old rusty tools that were propably used in the 1950s, lots of bee hives and last but not least, dust! The last place I want to be in. I went downstairs and checked the living room, the furniture was still in good condition. I saw my grandfather and Sakari making a fire in a brick surrounded area (so the fire wouldn't get out of hand) and I decided to join them. I walked through lots of wild grass to get to the fireplace and I sat down on the chair next to it. We all ate sausages, and have you noticed that every camper eats sausages at a fire? After eating, I got to put out the fire. Splash. Water. The fire then started steaming for a while. Then we got into the car, and drove back to our grandparent's house.

The story so far...

One of the main stories of this blog is to write about the time I spend in Japan. That however, is a long time away, but there is plenty to say about the preparation process. So, the story so far.

Since I started my Japanese lessons a bit under a year ago, I fantasized about a year as an exchange student in Japan. The more I thought about it, the more interested I became, and the better an idea it felt like. I think I mentioned the idea during one of our lessons. A fellow student there was a member of Youth For Understanding, a respectable, non-profit exhange organisation. I checked out the website and ordered an info packet. I read the info packet and dismissed the application forms as it was too early to apply for this year.

Summer Holiday Blues

After two fun filled weeks at Tapiola following the end of school, I suddenly find myself at our grandparents, in Ylivieska. A six hour train journey from Helsinki. The hectic times just before the end of school, and the two weeks I spent busily enjoying my Summer holiday, have left me feeling somewhat agitated now that I am (by my standards) in the middle of nowhere, completely idle. Luckily the library computers offer some consolation.

Introducing... The Almost Daily!

The Almost Daily is a personal blog of mine, the main purpose of which is to practice creative writing. Hopefully you will also find it interesting. The content of the blog will be quite varied, and I intend to post all of the posts here aswell. My first post concerns old people...

We all know that everyone, no matter what your age, loves the Wii. This retirement home in Australia has adopted Wii bowling as a regular social activity. The young fellow graced by the name of Junglist, takes on Marion, the local senior champion of Wii bowling. The ultimate showdown of youthful vigor versus people who look like dried prunes awaits, who will win in this epic struggle?

Backyard CS Episode 3

This is my parody on the popular online game called Counter Strike, and it is filmed in real life and me and my friend have acted it. It includes the sounds from the original game and a minor heads up display too, that is included in the game. The main inspiration of starting this series was because there are many other real-life CS videos on the internet at websites such as Youtube and Google Video. We made this movie just for fun with no serious purpose whatsoever. This movie is the 3rd in the series and I hope that you enjoy it!

Age of Empires II: The Conquerors - Game Sunday 3/6/07

How about a nice game of AOC to celebrate the end of school? For map type I was thinking of perhaps oasis or highland, since we havent played a map with no water yet. Regicide could be the name of the game today, since it allows for some nice cunning manouvers.

If you can make it please let me know asap, I would be happy to play with a min of 3 players, if needed we can throw in a 4th moderate computer. My proposed time for the beginning of the game would be 16:00, although that can be changed if required.
