The Chronicles of Croatia: Combined Chapters

Here I tell you about my trip to Croatia, as recorded by me during my holiday, alas I have been forced to post this to The Reilu Kerho almost 3 days after I came back to Finland, since I had no available interwebsings there. Nevertheless, enjoy my ramblings.

Chapter 42
(Whatever happened to the other 41)

This being the first chapter of “The chronicles of Croatia”, you wouldn’t expect me to start with Chapter 42, but with 42 being my favorite number it seemed like a good starting point. I shall just pass the other 41 chapters as having gotten inadvertently lost in the warp while wondering to the fridge for some sandwiches.

Now that’s been cleared up, its time to move on to the actual content of this transmission. I’m currently on holiday in Croatia, in a small costal town called Rovinj, It’s a very nice place to which the sea is always close by, creating many beautiful sights. There is a very close-knit center of the town, built around a large monastery / cathedral on top of a large hill. There is also the Limski fjord, which is pretty sweet. “Good food, fine wine”, as they say. I have to confess to having had excellent food during my stay here, and as it has also been cheap, I’ve had lots of it.

Our dwelling, and the great view from there.

The local beach scene.

Today we visited the nearby town of Porec, if only to revitalize some old memories. (We spent a week there 6 years ago). Still a very cool place, it seems. We had dinner and then went for a stroll around town.

Cake, nuff said.

It's people!

Ye most wicked chess board ever.

“Nevermind the noodle mooch, here come the “Epic Ice cream Wars!!!”
Yes, you heard me, Epic Ice cream Wars… This wasn’t an all-out war as per say, but more of an aggressive feud over customers by two Ice cream-parlors, right across a narrow street from each other. Nothing here had changed in 6 years. The shouting and Ice cream juggling went on for hours, resulting in hilarity. I’ve got a few videos of this.

"Ice Cream man" in a bowlthing.

More Ice cream.

An Ice cream stall.

Ice cream juggling, FTW!!!

Other notable things were the T-shirts, sold by some small one-man shops, with some rather funny slogans: “665 – Neighbour of the Beast” and “One Tequila, Two Tequila, Three Tequila, Floor” and the fairground I visited just before we left.

I found this fairground a pleasant end to the day.

Chapter 69

Hello, and welcome once again to “The chronicles of Croatia”, this time as I tell you about my last day in Rovinj. In a mix of feelings I set off into the last day, taking a 7 hour boat trip with my family, which as we expected, was great fun.

The cathedral on the hill in the middle of Rovinj...

And the numerous mediterranean houses surrounding it.

The actual town.

The boat first circled around a plethora of islands taking on all the passengers from all the various hotels and app / camping areas lining them; before setting off towards Lim Fjord, which in itself is wrongly named as Croatia doesn’t actually have fjords, unlike Norway, and so was more of a gorge. There we had lunch.

After a delicious meal onboard the ship, many people went swimming, jumping off of the side of the ship, and even from the second floor of it, almost 3 meters high. I, on the other hand had had quite a lot to eat, (12 mussels and 3.5 hamburgers), and I opted to stay on the ship and rest for awhile.

He's flying!

Or not...

Shploooosh!

When we set off again, we were treated to a good bout of musicising (not sure if that is even a word) and yodelling. Many people took to some light drinking, but after half a glass of wine and my second sip of schnapps, I decided I’d better stop. ^^

The "schnapps" or as known in Croatia, "grappa".

Yodelling...

At around 9pm we went to Rovinj itself to have dinner, came across a "yacht de la fucking huge" (please excuse my French), and saw a master spray-artist doing some brilliant space themed paintings. We found our restaurant, one at which we had dined before, and I spotted the most hilarious name for a bar that I had ever seen, Caffe Bar "Molo Grande" Now, most people would fail to find this funny in any way, but since in Finnish “molo” is a slang word for a penis, and grande is… well, you catch my drift.

Caffe Bar "Molo Grande". XD

Now thats what I call a yacht.

As a finale we saw a one-man band. Some dude had strapped a bass drum to a backpack rig so that every time that he kicked forward, the bass drum made a sound. To this he added a number of bells and horns on his other foot, a small amplifier on the top of the rig, to play a simple tune, a guitar in his hands, and a harmonica fixed close to his mouth on a metal holder. Unfortunately my camera died right before we saw this spectacle, and I couldn't take pictures.

This concludes the last episode in my two-part trilogy of “The chronicles of Croatia”; as for the location of the missing 27 chapters between 42 and 69, I haven’t the foggiest.

I agree Sak's point. This is better than Olli's. Even though this was a long post I read it through. Perhaps its the humour. Yes! Its the humour! Tony you are a god when it comes to humour! How many times have I said humour in this comment? Lets say one more humour just in case. Humour. One more. Humour. Hey I like this. Humour humour humour humour humour.
